ZEISS on Your Campus (ZOYC) is a free, global workshop series aimed at educating scientists and students on the fundamentals of microscopy as well as new techniques. In 2012, ZOYC will focus on the basics of acquiring images for scientific publication as well as introduce emerging technologies in both light and electron microscopy. Each ZOYC will include a combination of lectures and hands-on labs; all material is applicable to microscopy systems from all manufacturers.
Join us October 9 – 11, 2012, for ZOYC at MaRS Discovery District in Toronto. We warmly thank Dr. Howard Lipshitz of the Molecular Genetics department for hosting this event.
All lectures and hands-on sessions are free to attend. As space is limited, we require registration for all events. You can register for separate events below.
The early afternoon lectures will focus on topics for students and researchers who are new to microscopy or would like a better understanding of the basics of microscopy and digital imaging in order to improve the quality of their images. We will provide refreshments and then continue into the late afternoon with more advanced topics that will be of interest to both students and experienced microscopy users. Register below.
1:00 pm - Lecture
"Generating Publication Quality Images, Part 1: Understanding Signal-to-Noise, Contrast Techniques, Illumination, Objectives and Sample Preparation"
1:45 pm - Lecture
"Generating Publication Quality Images, Part 2: Understanding Resolution, Detectors, Image Processing, Optical Sectioning and Guidelines for Publication"
2:30 pm - Refreshments for registered attendees
3:00 pm - Guest Lecture
"Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM)"
presented by Dr. Ernst Stelzer
Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences
Goethe Universität Frankfurt am Main
Cluster for Excellence Frankfurt Macromolecular Complexes
The hands-on labs will provide you with the opportunity to apply the information learned from the lectures on real equipment and samples while also exploring a variety of practical topics common to day-to-day microscopy work. There are four stations; you can choose to register for a few of the stations or participate in up to four. While the hands-on labs will use the following equipment, keep in mind that the topics can be easily transferred to a variety of microscopy systems from all manufacturers.
Are you in the market for a new microscope? Schedule one-on-one time on any of our systems to learn how our solutions can be applied to your research. Email your Account Manager, Chantal Blanchard, for more information.
